Facilities Engineer- 100% remote
Job Description
Facilities engineering within government, GOCO, or other controlled‑environment contexts, as well as the ability to operate in a client‑facing consulting environment.
Responsibilities
+ Lead the development, definition, and management of facility design and operational requirements for new government‑aligned and industrial facilities, including greenfield projects built from scratch.
+ Drive improvements in facility operations, maintenance programs, and real property management to enhance performance and reliability.
+ Provide technical recommendations to optimize manufacturing operations, reduce costs, and improve overall operational efficiency.
+ Prepare, review, and deliver engineering reports, assessments, and presentations that clearly communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
+ Oversee contractor‑executed activities such as planning and design, development, maintenance, and real property transition to ensure alignment with project objectives.
+ Evaluate contractor performance against cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements and recommend corrective actions when needed.
+ Apply project management principles to facility‑related projects, including planning, estimating, scheduling, and coordinating resources.
+ Conduct facility inspections, engineering analyses, and operational studies to identify issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
+ Identify operational risks related to facility design, construction, and operations, and develop practical recommendations for mitigation and corrective action.
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local real property policies, regulations, easements, permitting requirements, and land‑use agreements.
+ Coordinate closely with client teams, general contractors, architects, owners, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to align technical requirements and project execution.
+ Support design reviews and construction oversight for new industrial facility construction at Department of Defense installations, typically on multi‑year programs.
+ Apply expertise in mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping, and controls and automation, to support design calculations and system integration.
+ Contribute to program management and program coordination activities related to facilities projects, ensuring clear communication and stakeholder alignment.
+ Represent the organization in client meetings, program reviews, and technical discussions as a trusted technical advisor.
Essential Skills
+ At least 7+ years of experience as a Facilities Engineer, Mechanical Designer, or Mechanical Engineer within a GOCO (Government‑Owned, Contractor‑Operated) or U.S. Government facility.
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
+ Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with preference for licensure in Michigan or Ohio.
+ Proven experience delivering government, industrial, or manufacturing facility projects from concept through design and construction.
+ Hands‑on experience performing design calculations and supporting design for mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping, and controls and automation.
+ Demonstrated capability in developing, defining, and managing design requirements for new facilities, including managing those requirements through construction on greenfield projects.
+ Experience in engineering consulting or client‑facing technical roles, working closely with general contractors, architects, owners, and subcontractors.
+ Experience evaluating contractor performance against cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.
+ Strong understanding of real property regulations, easements, permitting processes, and land‑use agreements.
+
Experience with program management, program coordination, and stakeholder management for facility or construction projects.
+ Experience in construction, construction management, and design review for new construction projects.
+ Proficiency in project management practices including estimating, scheduling, and quality control for facility projects.
