Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer
The Industrial Strategy (IS) Powertrain (PWT) Assembly Systems Product/Process Specialist will lead projects in the design and cost estimation of assembly systems for engines, in line with the Long Range Plan. The role includes automation, facilities, and all other equipment required for new model launches in North America, Canada, and Mexico. The manager will apply Process Standards developed by the Underbody Process Engineering (UPE) group to develop proposals for new product introductions, including process design, layout, and cost estimations (capital, tooling, and expense).
Jobresponsibilities
- Develop process cost estimates
- Develop initial labor/manpower estimates
- Create concept layouts and representations
- Perform product feasibility analyses
- Identify DTM opportunities to improve key KPIs (cost, quality, and throughput)
- Prepare process proposal documents for handoff to the UPE team for execution after program governance
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred; Electrical and/or Industrial acceptable)
- 8 years of automotive project experience with emphasis on assembly systems development (either engine or transmission)
- Experience leading teams in development of new product/process introduction proposals and cost estimation
- Experience directly managing process engineering development and launch activities
- Experience in execution of projects for new product/processes including RFQ, sourcing, commissioning, and launch
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel and Power Point
- Excellent communication skills—both oral and written
- Ability to communicate with executive and senior management
- Successful candidate must be able to work as part of a team
- Must be able to travel 10‑20% as required to visit Propulsion Division plants and suppliers
- 5 years of industrial project management experience
- Familiarity with 3D design and Teamcenter visualization
- Familiarity with required equipment and process types including automation, conveyance, controls, pressing, and torque
- Experience working with bargaining unit employees
