Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Product Engineer, Quality Engineering
Overview
This role is for a Design and Release Engineer for Degas Systems and components for high voltage batteries in Stellantis' vehicles. This includes components such as Degas Valves, Pre‑filters, and Degas Shrouds. The engineer will perform continued design and development for future applications, quality improvements, engineering change management, and validation of degas systems and components. The role spans all phases of the product lifecycle, including design concept, engineering validation, and production release through PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
It may also involve managing simultaneous engineering between product engineering and manufacturing for engine development.
- Design & Development:
- Lead the continued design and development of degas components, ensuring alignment with vehicle and powertrain requirements.
- Develop and refine concepts for degas components for new applications based on functional, safety, and performance requirements.
- Support CAD modeling, FEA, and other design validation methods to meet all functional requirements.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams (electrical, thermal, packaging) to integrate degas components into the overall powertrain/battery architecture.
- Release & Program Management:
- Manage design release activities from early concept through production, including timely completion of B‑Sample, C‑Sample, X0, X1, X2, and X3 milestones.
- Own the Bill of Materials (BOM) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) for degas components.
- Ensure all parts meet quality, cost, and timing requirements.
- Drive the PPAP for degas components, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and customer specifications.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, suppliers, and quality, to ensure successful release and implementation of designs.
- Technical Guidance & Problem Solving:
- Provide technical leadership and support during development and production to resolve design issues, material selection challenges, and process‑related problems.
- Lead DFMEA and other risk assessment activities to ensure design robustness and mitigate potential issues.
- Lead the development of testing strategies for degas systems and components.
- Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:- Work closely with suppliers to ensure design feasibility, cost competitiveness, and manufacturability of degas components.
- Collaborate with validation teams to define and implement validation testing, ensuring degas components meet functional and performance metrics.
- Work with suppliers, quality, purchasing, and engineering teams to resolve any quality issues related to degas components.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including design specifications, drawings, test plans, and validation reports.
- Ensure all technical documentation is up‑to‑date and aligns with program timelines and PPAP requirements.
- Report on project status, timelines, and risk assessments to senior management and stakeholders.
- Simultaneous Engineering:
- Lead simultaneous engineering meetings between product engineering and manufacturing.
- Maintain an open issues list of manufacturing‑related development issues.
- Drive cross‑functional teams to resolve open manufacturing‑related development issues.
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the automotive industry; experience in powertrain preferred.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, including metal stamping, welding, plastic injection molding, etc.
- Strong understanding of GD&T principles and processes.
- Understanding of structural and thermal CAE analysis and CFD analysis; ability to interpret analysis results/reports.
- Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, and other product development documentation.
- Knowledge of mechanics of materials, sealing systems, and fasteners.
- Ability to author system/component level requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, team leadership, oral, written, and project management skills.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
- Experience in creation and execution of validation plans.
- Experience with 3D CAD programs, preferably Siemens NX.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in the automotive industry, with powertrain experience preferred.
- 3+ years of experience with high voltage battery development, preferably with degas/venting.
