The Design and Release Engineer (Fascia/Bumper/Grill) will be responsible for developing components/systems from initial design concept through full volume production. They will provide feasibility input for development of designs from Product Design Office concepts, sketch, and clay models. They will establish and manage development timelines, develop functional objectives, build objectives, DVPR, and DFMEA. The Engineer will lead design, working with external sources or internal CAD resources, and release completed component geometry using Teamcenter/NX CAD tools.
They will validate virtual designs via CAE resources and perform physical validation with component, system, and vehicle level testing. They will manage internal documentation for release, plan tool construction, oversee assemblies, provide on‑site support for pilot builds and production launch, conduct root cause analysis, determine corrective action, analyze warranty issues, identify cost reduction opportunities, and manage safety compliance reporting.
- Own assigned parts/systems from design through launch
- Manage BOM, cost, quality, and change processes
- Collaborate with Studio/Product Design Office to ensure manufacturability
- Coordinate with suppliers for feasibility constraints and best practices
- Complete change management documentation in internal systems
- Track parts to the assembly plant and resolve build or launch issues
- Lead engineering effort, bringing cross‑functional teams together to resolve issues
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- Automotive industry experience (required)
- Minimum 1+ year of Design Release Engineer experience with true release responsibilities
- Experience supporting product launches and plant or supplier launch exposure
- Experience with exterior automotive components, especially plastic façades, grilles, cladding, trim, appliques
- Managing complex assemblies or multi‑part systems
- Strong communication: clearly explain hands‑on responsibilities and ownership
- Preferred: 3–8+ years of relevant experience, OEM or Tier 1 supplier background, Class A or painted surfaces, some interior experience, cross‑functional teamwork, deep understanding of automotive release and development processes
$37.00 – $42.00 per hour
