Overview

FEV is a global engineering consultancy providing services within the complete mobility space, including the passenger car and heavy‑dut­y commercial industry. The company offers students the opportunity to work within highly technical engineering teams focused on developing the next generation powertrain systems, blending conventional combustion engines with electrification to meet future performance, fuel‑economy, and emissions requirements.

Role Summary

The Engineering Assistant will support powertrain development through testing, data analysis, and customer interaction. An experienced engineer will serve as a direct mentor, providing project tasks, training, and guidance. Students will participate in internal training and team activities and may expand into calibration or additional development tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Support test plan creation.
  • Track and report project progress.
  • Assist with measurement equipment calibration, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of new powertrain test setups (including conventional and hybrid configurations).
  • Coordinate with operations staff to execute testing tasks.
  • Process and analyze data.
  • Manage customer hardware and project component inventory and logistics.
  • Prepare internal team and customer presentations.
  • Support second‑shift testing if required.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a U.S. bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in an engineering field or closely related discipline.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer.
  • Basic understanding of internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems.
  • Proficiency with MS‑Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic experience with MS‑Excel macro or MATLAB scripting.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Motivated team player able to perform in a fast‑paced development environment.
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
Preferred
  • Experience in engine dynamometer and/or vehicle testing.
  • Exposure to engine calibration.
  • Hands‑on experience with engine hardware assembly or rebuilding.
  • Knowledge of U.S. legislation for emissions, fuel economy, and OBD.
  • Familiarity with regulatory language in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) or California Code of Regulations (CCR).
