Senior Design Release Engineer – Lead the design, development, validation, and release of Interior Overhead Systems for automotive vehicle programs. The ideal candidate has 8–10 years of automotive product development experience and is responsible for driving component development from concept through production launch while ensuring quality, cost, timing, performance, and regulatory requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, validation, and release of Interior Overhead Systems, including Overhead Consoles, Dome and Reading Lamps, Sunroof Control Modules and Switches, Occupant Monitoring and Camera Integration Components, Interior Sensors and Overhead Electronic Modules.
- Develop and maintain component specifications, technical requirements, and release documentation.
- Drive engineering change management activities throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure components meet vehicle-level functional, packaging, quality, cost, and timing requirements.
- Lead technical discussions with suppliers and ensure delivery of components according to program milestones.
- Manage supplier design reviews, APQP activities, PPAP readiness, and issue resolution.
- Support sourcing activities and supplier technical evaluations.
- Coordinate prototype, pilot, and production build support activities.
- Lead DFMEA, DVP&R, and design review activities.
- Support component and vehicle-level validation testing.
- Analyze test, warranty, and field performance data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reliability.
- Partner with Packaging, Manufacturing, Vehicle Integration, Validation, Quality, Purchasing, and Supplier teams.
- Support issue resolution during vehicle builds and launch activities.
- Present technical updates and status reports to management and program teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
- 8–10 years of automotive engineering experience, including design release, product development, or systems engineering.
- Proven experience managing automotive interior components or interior electronic systems.
- Strong understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP/PPAP, product development processes, and automotive suppliers/OEM development teams.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Strong project management and technical leadership skills.
- Experience with automotive interior systems, overhead consoles, lighting systems, or body electronics.
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, or Creo.
- Knowledge of CAN/LIN communication related to interior electronic components.
- Experience supporting vehicle launch activities and manufacturing plants.
- Prior experience within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
- Technical leadership, product ownership, program execution, cross-functional collaboration, problem solving, root cause analysis, communication, and stakeholder management.
