Responsibilities
- Improve existing optical thin‑film coating designs and invent new designs to meet targeted performance for end‑use applications, including new wavelength designs, bandpass selection, reflectance optimization, signal rejection, buffer layers, and antireflection strategies.
- Design and develop deposition technologies, analyze, improve, and implement new methods or equipment modifications to support advanced optical designs and performance enhancements.
- Operate vacuum thin‑film deposition technology to produce ultrathin, ultra-precise multilayer coatings on precision optics, determining optimal deposition parameters for complex programmed gradients.
- Troubleshoot deposition systems and equipment, provide design input for mechanical fixtures, and analyze optical designs to optimize coating solutions.
- Conduct and analyze measurements of thin films and optical surfaces, using techniques such as X‑ray reflectivity, EUV reflectivity, atomic force microscopy, white‑light interferometry, residual gas analysis, and relevant microscopy. Evaluate deposition equipment condition, assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
- Prior experience with thin films, vacuum deposition, and optical analysis (required or preferred).
- PhD in engineering, physics, material science, or a related field.
- Strong data‑analysis skills (Excel, MATLAB, Python).
- Programming and/or CAD skills desirable but not required.
- Ability to work effectively with technicians, scientists, customers, and managers.
- Excellent communication skills for technical presentations, reports, documentation, and support for sales & marketing.
