Job Description Description

We are looking for experienced Vehicle Cost Engineers (VCE) to support automotive component cost analysis across multiple commodity groups. This role is ideal for engineers with a strong background in design, manufacturing, tooling, supplier costing, or commodity engineering who understand how automotive components are manufactured and can develop accurate should-cost models.

Multiple openings are available across the following commodity groups:

  • Body
  • Interior
  • Chassis
  • Engine / ICE
  • Powertrain / Driveline
  • Electrical Components & Systems
  • High Voltage Electronics
  • Electromechanical Systems
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop early-phase cost estimates and detailed should-cost models using an activity-based costing methodology
  • Analyze engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications, tooling, and physical components to estimate manufacturing and investment costs
  • Perform supplier piece price, ED&D, and tooling cost gap analysis
  • Conduct benchmarking, value engineering, and cost optimization studies
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, and Suppliers to support competitive cost targets
  • Support global cost convergence activities and provide cost comparison analyses
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing, Tooling, Cost Engineering, Design Engineering, or Commodity Engineering
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, machining, casting, forging, injection molding, stamping, assembly, and tooling
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Commodity Experience

Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following areas (experience in all areas is NOT required):

  • Interior:
    Injection molding, instrument panels, consoles, door panels, trim, decorative finishes, plastic welding, cut & sew
  • Powertrain / Driveline:
    Axles, Transfer Cases, Halfshafts, Front Drive Units (FDU), Rear Drive Units (RDU), Assembly, Casting, Machining, Forging
  • Electrical & High Voltage Electronics:
    Electric Drive Modules, Inverters, DC-DC Converters, On-board Chargers, Batteries, Sensors, Switches, Displays, Wiring Harnesses
  • Electromechanical Systems:
    Electric Pumps, Throttle Bodies, Engine Ignition Systems
  • Chassis:
    Suspension, Steering Systems, Castings, Stampings, Thermal/HVAC Systems, Compressors, Heat Pumps
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Activity-Based Costing or Should-Cost Modeling
  • Background in Design Responsible Engineering (DRE), Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Development, or Component Purchasing
  • Knowledge of Design-to-Cost (DTC) methodologies
  • Experience supporting supplier negotiations and cost reduction initiatives
  • Strong technical understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and component cost drivers
