The Exterior Mirror Design & Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of prism, electrochromic, and digital exterior mirror systems for production vehicles. This role owns the component lifecycle from concept through production launch, ensuring designs meet quality, cost, timing, performance, and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers, the DRE develops vehicle-level functional requirements, drives component-level design and integration, and supports software and hardware development, packaging, validation, manufacturing readiness, and production launch activities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, validation, and engineering release of exterior mirror systems and components.
- Collaborate with suppliers throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure designs meet technical specifications, performance targets, and program requirements.
- Define and manage component requirements, boundary diagrams, interface matrices, parameter diagrams, DFMEA, and DVP&R documentation.
- Develop and optimize component packaging, system integration, and interface compatibility with surrounding vehicle systems and Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
- Support software and hardware development, calibration, verification, and validation activities, including review and approval of engineering changes and release documentation.
- Manage CAD models, drawings, engineering BOMs, and product data within Teamcenter while maintaining design integrity and configuration control.
- Coordinate CAE activities, virtual validation, kinematic and compliance studies, and physical testing to ensure robust product performance.
- Support prototype builds, vehicle launches, manufacturing plants, and issue resolution through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and engineering change implementation.
- Conduct benchmarking, competitive analysis, and technology evaluations to support future product development.
