We are seeking an experienced Subsystem Technical Lead (SSTL) – Propulsion Systems Cooling to serve as the overarching technical owner for cooling systems across multiple vehicle programs. This role drives the end-to-end technical execution—coordinating cross-functionally with Design Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, and Global Suppliers to ensure all thermal systems achieve program targets for performance, quality, cost, weight, and timing.
Key Responsibilities- Program & Technical Leadership:
Own cooling system delivery from initial concept through production launch and lifecycle management; provide technical guidance to Design Release Engineers. - Component Oversight:
Drive engineering activities for critical hardware, including radiators, condensers, fan assemblies, oil coolers, hoses, tubes, electric coolant heaters, valves, pumps, and chillers. - System Integration:
Lead packaging, thermal design execution, cost/weight trade-offs, sourcing support, tooling coordination, DFMEA/DVP&R validation, and change management. - Launch Support:
Direct onsite plant activities during vehicle launch phases, providing rapid issue triage, resource alignment, and daily performance status reporting. - Supplier & Issue Resolution:
Manage key supplier technical interfaces and cross-functional teams to resolve design, quality, and manufacturing issues efficiently.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent ABET-accredited discipline. - Experience:
Minimum 8 years of automotive engineering experience, with significant focus on cooling or HVAC components at an OEM or Tier-1 supplier level. - Technical Knowledge:
Strong foundation in automotive cooling architectures, underhood/underbody packaging constraints, manufacturing processes, DFMEA, and DVP&R execution. - Leadership & Mobility:
Excellent program management and stakeholder influencing skills; willingness to travel 10–20% across North America to assembly plants and supplier sites.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with EV (Electric Vehicle) thermal systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer analysis, component cost modeling, or vehicle-level testing.
- Proficiency with industry tools such as UG/NX, Teamcenter, Visual Mockup, and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
