Mental Health Technician - FT Days - 36 hrs/week - 7:00 AM-7:30 PM - every other weekend HAVENWYCK HOSPITAL (a UHS facility)

The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes assisting with patient admissions, discharges and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non‑verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using the necessary intervention to de‑escalate the patient appropriately; reporting alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between hallucinations, delusions and revelations;

monitoring safety issues and taking action to prevent patient harm; communicating these issues to the Registered Nurse; assisting patients with activities of daily living; and encouraging independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis while providing care in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.

• Follows instructions given by all nursing leadership and as outlined in hospital policies and procedures.
• Reports patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
• Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between hallucinations, delusions and revelations and monitors safety issues to prevent patient harm; communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse.
• Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
• Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner and completes the appropriate documentation.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prefer a minimum of two years of college in psychology, social work, mental health or other related health fields.
• Experience with emotionally disturbed patients preferred.
