Mental Health Technician Part Time - Nights: Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit

Responsibilities

Mental Health Technician – PT Nights – 24 hrs/week – 7:00 PM–7:30 AM – every other weekend

The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with admissions, discharges and transfers; monitoring patients for verbal and non‑verbal cues of aggressive behaviors and intervening to de‑escalate; reporting changes in sensory perceptual images and distinguishing between illusional, delusional and hallucinatory states; monitoring safety issues and taking action to prevent harm;

communicating issues to the RN; and assisting patients with activities of daily living while fostering independent behavior.

• Follow instructions from nursing leadership and hospital policies and procedures.
• Report patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
• Report alterations in sensory perceptual images, distinguishing between illusion, delusion and hallucinations; monitor safety issues and take preventive action; communicate concerns to the Registered Nurse.
• Provide care in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner and complete the appropriate documentation.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prefer minimum of two years of college in psychology, social work, mental health or related health fields.
• Experience dealing with emotionally disturbed individuals preferred.
