We are seeking a Tool Maker for 2nd Shift at our Auburn Hills, MI Plant.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for using specialized tools to repair, design, fix tooling and machines throughout the facility. Trouble shoot and provide technical recommendations to management. Verify tools meet all safety and quality recommendations. Read and interpret blueprints and design schematics. Preventative maintenance, hi-lo operation and reporting are also key parts of this position. Must follow all applicable safety procedures to avoid injuries including requests for help from co-workers.
Proper handling of finished parts and products to avoid injuries or damage, follow all operational instructions when operating or using tools and equipment. Provide quality checks as determined. Job may require overtime and a flexible schedule, reporting early and working late, including weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOP's)
- Have vast knowledge and understanding of specialized tools.
- Follow safety protocol.
- Read and interpret blueprints and design schematics.
- Basic computer experience
- Toolmaking experience
- Housekeeping while in between quality checks
- Production reporting
- Measuring and marking metal stock for machining.
- Setting up machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
- Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions.
- Filling, grinding, and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish.
- Fitting and assembling tools and die parts.
- Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
- Conducting test runs with completed tools and dies.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools, manually operated dies and progressive dies
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with strong aptitude for operating machinery.
- Ability to follow instructions and learn the production process.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Clearly read, speak, and write the English language
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Journeyman card (highly preferred)
- Hi-Lo Certification preferred, will be trained, and certified on the hi-lo.
- (5) years of experience in tool and die in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Must be able to clear drug screen and background check.
- Must have reliable transportation.
