Position: House Supervisor (RN - PRN) - Days

Responsibilities

Clinical House Supervisor: (12 hr) Days, 36 hrs./week. Weekend Rotation.

Havenwyck Hospital (a UHS facility) is a Joint Commission‑accredited psychiatric hospital in Auburn Hills, Michigan that provides behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary

The House Supervisor (RN) is responsible for quality nursing care and overall supervision of nursing staff members for a particular hospital shift. The House Supervisor (RN) delivers nursing care for admissions during his/her shift, maintains knowledge of hospital administrative and nursing policies, and initiates disciplinary action in the Clinical Manager’s absence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Uses the nursing process to ensure appropriate delivery of nursing care.
  • Has a working knowledge of the hospital’s administrative policies and procedures.
  • Has a working knowledge of the nursing services policies and procedures.
  • Adjusts staffing as needed to ensure proper coverage according to designated staff/patient ratios in collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager.
  • Responsible for replacement of staff persons who are scheduled but unable to work.
  • Reports and informs appropriate administrators of any issues that require follow‑up.
  • Monitors and evaluates nursing care given, makes rounds throughout the hospital, and provides supervision to staff nurses and psychiatric care specialists, including disciplinary action.
  • Participates with the Nurse Unit Manager and other nursing managers in the development of therapeutic programs for the unit and his/her designated shift.
  • Ensures charts are audited for completion and quality to meet standards.
  • Ensures that all admissions during shift are handled appropriately, following admission policies and procedures.
  • Assists/oversees restraints or use of seclusion in emergencies, notifying the patient’s physician as required by policy.
  • Directs activities in all emergency situations, including fire, internal and external disasters, and environmental hazards (tornadoes), according to procedures.
  • Reviews intake information and collaborates with the Intake Referral Coordinator for timely referrals.
  • Investigates unusual incidents/complaints from patients, personnel and other departments and reports to the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current status as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Three to five years of psychiatric experience with one to two years of management experience.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification and proficiency in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
