The Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Expert Technician is responsible for performing first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision hand tools, Hexagon PC-DMIS CMMs, and FARO Laser Arm equipment to ensure parts meet engineering specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Program and operate CMM equipment using PC-DMIS measurement software.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections on complex machined components.
- Conduct dimensional inspections using precision hand tools including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, gauge pins, gauge blocks, and thread gauges.
- Read and interpret engineering blueprints, specifications, detail drawings, and sectional views.
- Utilize FARO Laser Arm equipment and Poly Works software (preferred) to support inspection and measurement activities.
- Ensure parts meet customer, engineering, and quality requirements through accurate inspection and documentation procedures.
- 2-year college degree or formal technical training.
- Knowledge of PC-DMIS is required.
- Experience with in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Must have experience with complex machined components.
- Knowledge of manual inspection techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings and work with CAD models.
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR compliant).
- Must be able to work in a sitting position for extended periods of time (at desk, while driving, and/or travel) in an office/industrial environment.
- Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
- Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- May be exposed to moving machinery, sharp metal chips, coolants, industrial chemicals, noise, heavy materials, etc.
- Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
- Ability to hear in person and via phone.
