AI Engineer (Applied/Software)
This internship will follow an in-person model. Interns will be based at the Stellantis Headquarters and Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Relocation assistance may be available for candidates who meet specific eligibility criteria. The internship program is scheduled to run from May through August 2027.
STELLANTIS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:The Stellantis Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for highly motivated, innovative, and inspired individuals to work on challenging assignments where contribution, teamwork and communication are vital to the success of the organization. As a leading-edge company, we provide real world challenges and rewarding intern experiences to candidates from a variety of colleges and universities while providing a competitive salary.
Internship Benefits:- Exposure to cutting-edge projects and technologies
- Collaborative work environment
- Mentorship from experienced professionals
- Networking opportunities with peers and leaders
- Skill development workshops and training sessions
- Paid US holidays
- Stellantis Employee Advantage Vehicle Discount Program
- Eligible interns may be able to participate in the Company Vehicle Employee Lease Program
The AI Design Intern supports the AI Design Hub in developing, testing, and deploying AI-enabled workflows that improve speed, capability, knowledge access, and decision‑making across the Design development process. This is a project-based assignment, not an administrative one. Interns are embedded with designers and studio engineering, work on real pain points, and are expected to leave having built things that Design can actually use.
WhatThey Will Work On:
- AI workflow development: prototype AI agents, automations, and tools built around real Design pain points.
- 3D and geometry automation: support experimentation with AI‑assisted 3D creation, surfacing, morphing, Blender workflows, and geometry translation.
- Packaging intelligence: help develop AI‑assisted packaging tools drawing on engineering standards, vehicle architecture data, competitive benchmarks, and Design requirements.
- Design knowledge: organize and structure Design data so AI can retrieve historical programs, standards, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Rapid prototyping: turn ideas from designers and studio engineering into working proof-of-concepts quickly.
- Testing and validation: work directly with designers to test prototypes, document performance, and identify where AI genuinely improves the workflow.
- Value measurement: help quantify time saved, process compression, rework reduction, capacity created, and other Fast Lane 2030 benefits.
Each intern is expected to finish the internship with two to three working AI prototypes tied to real Design workflows, each with measurable before‑and‑after impact and a recommendation for what should scale next.
Each intern is paired with a mentor and works alongside the Hub lead, the AI Portfolio and Execution Lead, regional AI and data leads, and matrixed ICT partners, with exposure to the AI Design Ambassador network across the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram studios. Project assignment will consider company needs and student preference, and interns will present their prototypes and results to Design leadership at the end of the program.
Toolsand Environment:
Interns build inside the Stellantis-approved AI environment, using company platforms rather than personal accounts for company data. The Hub provides:
- Microsoft Visual Studio Code as the primary development environment, with Git Hub Copilot for code assistance
- Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio for daily productivity and for building agents
- The Stellantis GenAI Playground, the internal no‑code chat environment for testing prompts and ingesting data across ChatGPT (GPT), Claude, and other approved large language models
- The GenAI Gateway, which gives secure, cost‑controlled API access to the GPT, Claude, Mistral, Cohere, Deep Seek, Llama, Nova, and Titan model families
- Stell.
