Overview
POSITION:
Lecturer in Music Education. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track position in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching beginning August 2026. This faculty member will be hired to support the Music Education program, which offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, Education Specialist, and Doctoral Degrees designed to prepare teachers, instructional leaders, and higher education professionals in music education. Review of applications will begin May 15, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is housed in the College of Education. The department offers a range of bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees in teacher education and instructional leadership.
The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and supervise student teaching interns in the Music Education program. The candidate will be expected to create teaching and learning opportunities that:
Other responsibilities include supervision of field experiences and collaboration with faculty to revise course content as necessary. Classes and field experiences are conducted face-to-face on the Auburn University campus and in local schools as well as through distance education modalities.
QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- An earned doctorate or having met all but the dissertation requirement in Music Education (or an equivalent field) from an accredited institution at the time employment begins. Successful candidates who do not hold a doctorate at the time of hire are expected to complete degree requirements within one year of their start date.
- A minimum of three years of full-time classroom teaching experience in Music Education at Early Childhood, Elementary, and/or Secondary Level.
- An ability to teach undergraduate/graduate courses, including vocal and/or instrumental methods, and supervise interns in Music Education.
- An ability to collaborate with local school administrations, teachers, students, and community members on matters related to music education.
- Commitment to the values and priorities of the College of Education.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching music education courses in higher education
- Experience supervising preservice teaching interns
- Active participation in state, regional, and/or national professional organizations
- Extensive classroom experience teaching Music Education
- Experience teaching Music Education at early childhood and/or elementary education levels
