Library Assistant Position
Auburn University's Charles Cary Veterinary Medical Library is excited to begin the search for a library assistant to support library operations by providing administrative support and customer service. The Veterinary Medical Library is a branch of Auburn University Libraries and primarily supports the teaching, clinical applications, and research of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The library assists other Auburn University faculty, staff and students, especially in the fields of agriculture, biological sciences, nursing, pharmacy, and zoology.
The Veterinary Medical Library maintains over 30,000 volumes and approximately 120 active paper serial subscriptions and has access to over 7,000 online scholarly journals. The materials held by the Library reflects current research and information needs. This position reports to the Head of the Veterinary Medical Library.
Normal work hours are Monday through Friday 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM with some weekends as needed.
Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
- Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
- Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
- Assistance with special projects
- Seasonal work
- Emergencies

Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the daily operations and services of the Charles Cary Veterinary Medical Library
- Managing daily library operations
- Supporting resource delivery services
- Participating in library initiatives, committees, outreach activities, and events
- Performing other duties as assigned to support library operations
Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of administrative support and customer service experience OR
- Associate's degree OR
- Bachelor's degree
Desired qualifications include:
- Experience working in a library and troubleshooting technical issues.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to contribute collegially and productively in a team environment.
- Ability to enter data accurately and consistently.
