Overview

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture(APLA) at Auburn University, a comprehensive land-grant and research institution, invites applications for two Visiting Assistant Professor positions in Architecture centered on teachingdesign studio and seminar/lecturer courses commencing August
2026.

APLA has a 118-year history of educating architects, interiorarchitects, landscape architects, and planners. The schoolcontributes to the region and to the profession through outreach,scholarship, and creative work. APLA includes four allieddisciplines:
Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental Design, and Landscape Architecture, and it offers both Bachelor'sand Master's degree options. APLA resides in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction along with the School of Industrial and Graphic Design and the McWhorter School of Building Science.

The Architecture program seeks candidates whose design research /practice is grounded in architectural innovation. We welcome candidates engaged in a range of progressive practices and scholarship in architecture and allied fields. Applicants are expected to teach and conduct research/lead creative activity thatcontributes to or challenges current architectural thinking. The successful candidates will teach design studios that integratesocial, technical, and environmental considerations intoarchitectural design and relevant courses in building technology.

Additionally, the candidates should have a strong teaching and research interest in one or more of the following areas:fabrication technologies, materials research, environmental controls, building systems/performance, sustainability, high performance assemblies, and/or resilience.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the appointment include teaching,research, and service. The successful candidates for the positions will be able to teach undergraduate architecture studios, lecturecourses, and/or seminars/workshops related to advancedarchitectural design courses. Candidates will be expected todevelop and maintain an active program of scholarly and/or creative work within the discipline. APLA is particularly interested incandidates who can contribute to the excellence of the academiccommunity through their teaching, research, outreach, and service.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD, Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture, or a Bachelor of Architecture plus aterminal degree in a related field, at the time employment begins.

Qualifications:

Desired qualifications include: demonstrated ability to teachdesign studio and related courses in a professional degree program,evidence of outstanding design skills, evidence of research/creative scholarship or the ability to develop and maintain an active research/creative scholarly program, holding aprofessional license in Architecture, or completion of the experience requirements of the AXP program.
