Student Assistant Position

Auburn University Libraries is seeking applicants for the position of Student Assistant to assist faculty and staff in the Government Documents Unit with daily library operations. The selected student may work up to 6 hours per week, depending on operational needs. Work hours are scheduled between 7:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Process new government documents.
  • Shelve government documents, microforms, and maps.
  • Shelf-read government documents, microforms, and maps.
  • Prepare lists of withdrawn documents for distribution to other depository libraries.
  • Record microform usage in a spreadsheet.
  • Screen gift books for duplication within Auburn University Libraries' collection.
  • Screen gift books for acceptance by Better World Books.
  • Maintain the Adopt-a-Book shelves.
  • Pack and ship books to Better World Books.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled student at Auburn University.
  • Must provide detailed availability for each day of the week within library operating hours.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated interest in public service and providing high-quality customer service.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while interacting professionally with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated dependability, including consistent attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform tasks that may include standing, walking, reaching, handling library materials and equipment, and occasionally lifting or moving items weighing up to 25 pounds.
