Position: Gifted Teacher - System Wide (part-time)

JOB TITLE:

Gifted Teacher (Part-time)

REPORTS TO:

Principal, Special Education Director, and/or Designee FLSA:
Exempt CONTRACT PERIOD: 9 Month ( 2 to 3 days per week, based on student days) SALARY:
Based on Board Approved Salary Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.

Certified by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area.

Must meet highly qualified status as determined by Alabama State Department of Education.

Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.

Establishes a positive classroom climate and effectively manages gifted education instruction within that environment.

Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff.

Utilizes innovative teaching techniques and technology as a teaching tool to plan and provide instruction; acts as a facilitator for students in the use of technology in the classroom.

Provides quality gifted education experiences for all students and ensures each student’s progress on an individual basis when possible.

Familiarizes one’s self with the established curriculum and plans lessons in concert with same.

Meets expectations according to the regular teacher job description.

Completes all gifted referrals in accordance with State Department of Education (SDE) and system guidelines.

Maintains gifted records in Power Schools and in Gifted Education (GEP) student folders.

Attends GEP eligibility meetings for students in service area.

Conducts parent GEP meetings in accordance with SDE and system guidelines.

Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school as directed.

Supervises students while providing services and during transitions to and from the general education setting.

Will be given the opportunity to attend gifted specific professional development, but not required.

Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.

Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.

Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.

Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.

Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.

Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.

Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.

Reports upcoming or current absences via email/telephone to the Special Education Department and Principals.

Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the principal and/or supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned.

Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.

Knowledge of current educational research.

Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.

Knowledge of learning styles and skills in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.

Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.

Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.

Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement.

Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have asafe and orderly environment in which to learn.

Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and others.

Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
