INSPECTOR–ENGINEERING

SERVICES

Department: Engineering Services

Pay Grade: 111

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Personnel Status: Regular Full-Time

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the inspection and acceptance of City infrastructure. This position reports to the Inspection Manager-Engineering Services.

Essential Job Functions
  • Inspects and tests new and existing water lines.
  • Inspects new and existing sewer lines and manholes.
  • Inspects storm drains.
  • Inspects new street construction.
  • Performs various other inspection duties.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain Grade I Water Certification within one year.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain QCI Certification within one year.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, City ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of City geography and road systems.
  • Knowledge of various measurement and other tools used in the inspection process.
  • Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Knowledge of work zone safety principles.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting maps, plans, and blueprints.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the operation of job-related testing equipment.
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
