Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and oversee critical financial functions. This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role with direct mentorship and training from a retiring Controller who has been with the organization for over 40 years.
Job Responsibilities- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Prepare and deliver timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage and mentor a team of four direct reports across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Reception.
- Maintain bank reconciliations, fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, insurance records, and line-of-credit activity.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and funding requirements while providing accurate reporting to financial and bonding institutions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, reporting requirements, and filings, including W-2s and 1099s.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain over/under billing schedules.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax audits, and financial reporting with external auditors and accounting partners.
- Negotiate and maintain relationships with financial institutions and insurance providers.
- Establish, monitor, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support sound financial decision-making.
- Oversee general liability insurance administration and claims management.
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to executive leadership regarding business performance and financial strategy.
- Experience with Sage 300 or any Sage product is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, preferably in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or project-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls.
- Experience managing accounting teams and developing staff.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting software systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Experience working directly with banks, auditors, insurance providers, and external financial partners.
- Self-driven, detail-oriented professional with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Reports directly to the President.
- Four direct reports (AP, AR, Payroll, and Reception).
- 100% onsite position located in Auburn, Alabama.
- $10,000 relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.
