SOLIDWASTE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

Job SummaryThis position is responsible for enforcing provisions of the City’s Solid Waste Ordinance. This position reports to the Solid Waste Division Manager.
Essential Job Functions- Enforces the City’s Solid Waste Ordinance.
- Patrols for issues on current route collection day in all three divisions: garbage and trash for code and regulatory violations and recycling for contamination and regulatory violations.
- Audits the recycling stream for compliance with departmental guidelines and regulations.
- Maintains related database with customer information, violations, customer accounts, and billing.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge of the City’s geography and street system.
- Knowledge of the City of Auburn’s Solid Waste Code.
- Knowledge of computers and job‑related software applications.
- Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
- Skill in the use of a various software applications.
- Skill in the interpretation and application of applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of operating a variety of equipment and tools related to solid waste collection and disposal activities.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
- Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co‑workers.
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
- Ability to work independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively.
The work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee utilizes sense of smell.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
