Cybersecurity Associate

Job Description

This position will be located in Huntsville, AL. Auburn University’s Office for the Sr. Vice President of Research and Economic Development is accepting applications for the position of Cybersecurity Associate
. This position is critical in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating information and cybersecurity risks across the University’s network.

• Monitor the University’s digital environment and security tools for potential threats or anomalies.
• Serve as the first responder to high-risk alerts or suspected cyberattacks that may impact business operations.
• Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and address cybersecurity incidents.
• Escalate alerts appropriately based on severity and impact.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely and effective incident response.

• Assist in enforcing and auditing information security policies and procedures such as access, breach escalation, use of firewalls, and encryption routines.
• Assist in updating, maintaining, and documenting security controls; provide direction and support to clients and internal IT groups for information security-related issues.
• Perform administration duties of varied server technologies, enterprise systems and peripheral devices, network and security devices, and all desktop computer systems and peripherals within the last five years on market.
• Assist in performing high-level analysis of complex and disparate computing systems, networks, and data architectures to identify, rectify, and prevent technical and information security vulnerabilities.
• Perform work on critical automated processes, computer systems, networks, databases, information systems, telecommunication systems, and computer policies, procedures, and practices.
• Demonstrate high-level technical skills in the areas of information security, networking, and computer systems, and excellent capacity for grasping relevant details and complex systems analysis.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

• Bachelor’s degree (no specific discipline) and 0 years of relevant IT experience in administering security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from infiltration and cyber-attacks.
• Associate’s degree (no specific discipline) and 4 years of relevant IT experience in administering security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from infiltration and cyber-attacks.
• High school diploma or equivalent and 8 years of relevant IT experience in administering security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from infiltration and cyber-attacks.

• Degree in IT or related field preferred.
• CISSP Certified Information Systems Security Professional upon hire desired.
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) upon hire desired.
• CompTIA Security+ Certification upon hire desired.
• GIAC (SANS) upon hire desired.
• ISC (2) upon hire desired.

When a candidate has the required experience but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years of relevant experience per year of required education.
