Shift: 6p–6a
Pay Rate: $22.68–$24.11
Job Overview
The Take‑up 2 is an entry‑level role for setting up and operating coiler/spooler machines, including Skaltec Coiler, Windak, and Skaltec Take‑up (BWP) models.
General Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
- Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time and lift up to 45 lbs.
- Must be able to follow instructions
Primary Job Tasks
- Assist operators with lines
- Operate according to applicable procedures
- Change out reels of cable while maintaining line function
- Utilize tagging system to label reels
- Make minor adjustments and repairs to machines
- Properly use production orders to meet all customer requirements
- Operate take‑up and assist line operator with running the machine
- May require Southwire forklift license
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Cross‑Training
- Required to cross‑train one equipment within your identified workgroup
- May be required to fill positions in case of absence or vacancy after training
- Required to rotate on a set frequency within workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
Quality
- Do not release products until all quality checks have passed
- Perform quality checks as outlined in process procedures and conduct minor maintenance when necessary
- Immediately report quality issues to supervisor or quality manager
- Use company ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities
Safety
- Working safely is a condition of employment
- Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
- Follow all safety procedures and rules
- Properly wear all required PPE
- Review Job Hazard Analyses for proper job sequence and hazards
- Review Safety Data Sheets for assigned jobs
- Maintain work areas to 5S standards
- Perform pre‑operation safety inspection and hazard analysis
- Follow all company environmental rules and procedures
Physical/Environmental Demands
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate control
- Physical activities include balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and sitting
