Overview
The College of Sciences and Mathematics' (COSAM) Communications and Marketing team is seeking a creative, organized and dependable student social media coordinator to support COSAM's social media presence.
The student social media coordinator will help develop and publish engaging content that showcases the college's students, faculty, research, programs, events and campus community. This position offers hands-on experience in social media planning, content creation, digital storytelling, analytics and higher education communications.
The ideal candidate will understand how to create platform-appropriate content, identify engaging story opportunities and communicate authentically with student and external audiences.
Responsibilities- Help plan, create, schedule and publish content for COSAM's social media platforms
- Write engaging captions and adapt messaging for different platforms and audiences
- Develop student-focused content highlighting the COSAM experience, including classes, research, student organizations, events and campus life
- Capture photos and short-form video content at COSAM events, programs and other activities
- Create and edit social media graphics, videos, reels, stories and other digital content
- Maintain a social media content calendar and help ensure content is timely, accurate and consistent
- Monitor COSAM's social media channels for relevant comments, messages, mentions and engagement opportunities
- Identify emerging social media trends and recommend appropriate ways for COSAM to participate
- Track social media performance and assist with preparing analytics reports
- Coordinate with student writers, photographers and other members of the Communications and Marketing team
- Help identify and feature students, faculty, alumni and staff in social media content
- Ensure content follows Auburn University branding, accessibility and social media guidelines
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Current Auburn University student in good academic standing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with major social media platforms, particularly Instagram, Facebook and Linked In
- Ability to write concise, engaging and accurate social media copy Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines and a content calendar
- Good judgment and professionalism when representing COSAM and Auburn University online
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and collaborate with a team
- Willingness to attend and capture content at occasional events outside regular office hours
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Coursework or experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, graphic design or a related field
- Experience managing social media for a student organization, business, publication or other organization
- Experience creating short-form video content for Instagram Reels or similar platforms
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud or other design and video-editing tools
- Basic photography and videography skills
- Familiarity with social media analytics and scheduling tools
- Interest in STEM fields, higher education or science communication
- Knowledge of digital accessibility and AP style
