Pay range: $30.00 - $48.00 / hour
Shifts: full-time AM, flexi/PRN
Schedules: 5:30 a.m.
-6:00 p.m., 6:30 a.m.
-7:00 p.m., 9:30 a.m.
-10:00 p.m.

Job Highlights
UAB Medicine’s Heart & Vascular Center (HVC) is a 48-bed unit designed to streamline preop and recovery care for cardiac, neuro interventional, and interventional radiology patients. Staff support cath lab, electrophysiology lab, vascular IR lab, and neuro IR lab procedures. The unit may include procedures such as cardioversions, ablations, ECMO, angioplasty, nephrostomy, biliary drains, thrombectomy, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). The environment is dynamic and fast-paced with opportunities to enhance critical assessment skills.
Staff in related labs may be on call 5-8 days per month, including after hours, weekends, and holidays. Respond within 30 minutes for emergent cases. Prior ICU/critical care experience is preferred but not required; additional training is provided for candidates without experience.
The HVC is part of the Cardiovascular Institute at UAB Medicine, consistently ranked among the nation’s top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report. Job Description
To utilize the nursing process to provide and monitor moderate sedation care and/or counsel individuals in the heart and vascular procedure setting regarding health promotion and prevention of illness and injury. Apply a systematic critical-thinking approach to data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention, and evaluation of human responses to health problems through teaching, counseling, and interventional care. Identify patient needs before, during, and after procedures using the AACN Synergy Model.
Delegate, coordinate, and manage all aspects of nursing care in the heart and vascular procedure setting, in collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team with physician guidance.
Education and Licensure
Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama State Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required.
