Overview
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Biosystems Engineering Department at Auburn University, Auburn, AL. This is a one year, full-time 12-month non-tenure track position that may be renewed annually contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding availability. The individual selected for this position will work in the areas of nutrient management, hydrology, water quantity, and quality modeling. The expected start date is August 1, 2026.
ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Evaluating the effectiveness of agricultural best management practices (e.g., biochar and other related soil amendments) to improve soil health, water quality, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
- Using hydrological models to simulate the fate and transport processes of contaminants.
- Mentoring graduate students.
- Developing research proposals and peer-reviewed publications.
- Presenting research results at conferences.
The minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Agricultural or Civil Engineering, Soil Science, or hydrology-related fields from an accredited institution at the time employment begins. The candidate should have prior experience in statistical analysis, publishing peer-reviewed articles, and conducting chemical analyses of water and soil samples in a laboratory. Basic knowledge in hydrological modeling (e.g., SWAT, APEX, HYDRUS) and nutrient management is desirable.
The incumbent must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Previous experience in using analytical instruments such as AQ2 Discrete Analyzer, ICP-OES, ion chromatography, and developing proposals for securing extramural funding.
