Overview
College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Research Assistant I/II/III/IV
. This position will assist researchers in planning, maintaining or completing research programs and/or projects involved in the discovery of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts which require fundamental scientific/research knowledge, skills and abilities following relevant policies, procedures, regulations and laws.
- Responsible for receiving, processing, and logging patient samples for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).
- Assist with answering the phone, checking voicemail or email messages which involve helping the clients with questions or needs related to results.
- Conducts routine drug analysis for the TDM services and research projects including daily assessment of instrument performance, instrument maintenance, review of the quality control data, assessing, loading results to the database, notifying the clinical pharmacologist of readiness, and reporting results to clients.
- Assists with laboratory logistics, including the basic maintenance of the equipment, and keeping the TDM area clean and organized. Assist with the supply inventory for the TDM area. Also, assist with routine responsibilities such as handling chemicals and autoclave waste, cleaning glassware, and performing other miscellaneous supportive activities.
- Collects data/samples related to research and in routine cases from the TDM database. This includes assisting on record, compiles, processes, analyzes data/samples and preparing/sending the report as part of the publication process.
- Responsible for the HPLC analysis of TDM samples. This includes preparing the materials, reagents, solutions, calibration curves, and controls for the analysis. Also, setting up the instrument and preparing the report for the results.
- Assists in the preparation of protocols for equipment/instrumentation on the TDM area and the database. This responsibility involves training the TDM personnel on those protocols.
Level I:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field - no experience required.
Level II:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level III:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level IV:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.

Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
- Experience in molecular laboratory work, e.g., DNA/ RNA extraction, PCR.
- Proficiency in using software tools for data analysis (e.g., R, SAS, or Python).
- Previous experience in research or laboratory setting.
