Overview

Interested in environmental research? Join an Auburn University project measuring methane emissions at landfill sites in South Carolina. Gain hands-on experience with advanced monitoring technology, field data collection, and scientific research methods. Ideal for students considering graduate school or careers in environmental and atmospheric sciences.

Responsibilities
  • Travel to the Three Rivers Solid Waste Landfill site in South Carolina
  • Conduct routine site visits, typically about once per month or as needed
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of sensors/scientific instruments
  • Inspect system performance and report issues to the research team
  • Download field data, maintain field notes and visit records
Qualifications
  • Enrolled student at Auburn University.
  • Valid driver's license, passing the Auburn University campus safety course, and experience with 4x4 truck driving
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a team
  • Comfortable working outdoors under sunlight and around field equipment
  • Interested in earth systems science, and a sophomore or senior level is preferred
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • No prior experience is required; we will arrange training relevant to-
  • Methane monitoring instrumentation, eddy covariance systems
  • Field data collection and management
  • Research methods and scientific workflows (if interested)
