Behavior Intervention Assistant

Hours are 07:55 am - 02:25 pm, Monday through Friday. Under the immediate supervision of the school site principal and with oversight from the Behavior Specialist and/or designee, the Behavior Intervention Assistant works with students with behavioral, emotional, and/or special needs in a variety of settings, including general and special education classrooms and unstructured times. This position is posted inhouse. Current classified employees have priority.

College level coursework in child development, special education, or student behavior preferred.

Experience in using ABA (applied behavior analysis) teaching methodologies.

Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for up to 60 minutes at a time. Ability to navigate indoor and outdoor environments, including uneven terrain, playgrounds, and stairs, in various weather conditions. Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching (overhead and horizontally) to interact with students at their level. Sufficient vision to monitor student safety and read instructional materials;

clear hearing and speech to communicate effectively in noisy classroom or playground environments. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds (e.g., adaptive equipment or students) independently; ability to move over 50 pounds with assistance. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during off-site field trips.

High volume of social interaction with students and faculty, requiring constant mental alertness and emotional resilience, while providing intervention for students with diverse behavioral profiles, including physical aggression, verbal outbursts, and emotional dysregulation.
