Responsibilities
As a Resident Assistant, you will support residents in a person‑centered environment, ensuring safety, dignity, and quality of care while assisting with daily activities and health promotion.
- Become familiar with the facility’s administrative structure as introduced in the pre‑training orientation session.
- Use wristband or photo card to identify residents before administering treatments, serving meals, or conducting any activity.
- Report all accidents and incidents observed during shifts and record changes in residents’ conditions to the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse as soon as practicable.
- Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, and other documentation in an informative, descriptive manner and use only authorized abbreviations established by the facility.
- Maintain confidentiality of protected health information and report suspected or known violations to the Administrator.
- Report any suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information system.
- Perform only those nursing care procedures for which you have received training.
- Ensure residents’ rooms are prepared for arrival (bed made, name tags up, admission kit available).
- Greet residents, escort them to their rooms, and introduce them to roommates and staff.
- Inventory and mark residents’ personal possessions, store clothing, and assist with packing when transferring to a new room or during discharge.
- Transport residents to new rooms or the receiving area and assist with vehicle loading/unloading.
- Participate in and receive the nursing report as instructed.
- Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Make beds, add extra covers when requested.
- Measure and record temperatures, pulses, and respirations (TPRs) of residents as instructed.
- Weigh and measure residents as instructed.
- Ensure residents who cannot call for help are checked frequently and answer resident calls promptly.
- Check residents routinely to ensure their personal care needs are met.
- Assist residents in identifying food arrangements, record food/fluid intake, and keep water pitchers clean and filled.
- Perform after‑meal care, including removing trays and cleaning resident’s hands, face, and clothing.
- Follow work assignments, schedules, and coordinate with inter‑departmental and facility personnel to maintain nursing services.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of information, allegations of abuse, or misappropriation of resident property.
- Honor residents’ refusal of treatment requests and report such requests to your supervisor.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QualificationsMinimum 8th‑grade education required. Additional skills and abilities:
- Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
- Apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reason practical problems and deal with varied situations with limited standardization.
- Interpret a variety of written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions.
Successfully perform essential functions of this job, including:
- Lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Prolonged use of desktop or laptop computers.
- Regular tasks of sitting, standing, walking, talking, reading, and hearing.
- Frequent use of office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax, telephone, and calculator.
- Assistance with evacuation of residents during emergencies.
Typical noise levels are low to moderate. The environment is safe and supportive but may require occasional exposure to the duties listed above.
