Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Field/Service Technician
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to support field operations and maintenance activities throughout California and surrounding areas. Direct-Hire!
Work Location:
Sacramento area, with projects throughout California and occasional assignments in neighboring states.
Travel:
Approximately 80%, with travel potentially increasing to 100% depending on project requirements. Overnight and short-notice travel may be required.
The Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of heavy industrial, construction, forestry, and support equipment.
Work may be performed at project sites, including remote locations, high elevations, and challenging weather conditions. This is a year-round field position requiring strong mechanical knowledge, independence, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues.
Key Responsibilities- Perform scheduled, preventative, and unscheduled maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service manuals.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair inoperable heavy equipment in the field.
- Maintain and repair loaders, tractors, skidders, chippers, excavators, dozers, graders, grinders, harvesters, generators, trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
- Fabricate and repair hydraulic hoses and related components.
- Identify and order replacement parts using technical manuals, catalogs, and parts systems.
- Deliver parts and equipment to project locations as needed.
- Assist with equipment transportation, cleaning, and general shop/field maintenance.
- Maintain accurate electronic records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Provide guidance and support to other mechanics and assist with training when needed.

Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of diesel-powered heavy equipment and mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment problems.
- Experience using precision measuring and diagnostic equipment.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, and extended hours when required.
- Ability to travel on short notice, including overnight assignments.
- Ability to work in remote, adverse, and changing weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and 50 lbs. frequently.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Successful completion of applicable background and motor vehicle checks.
