Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor and the functional direction of a Caltrans Highway Maintenance Lead worker, the incumbent operates equipment such as Passenger Vehicles, Mini to 3/4‑Ton Pickups, Vans, 3/4‑Ton Utility Bodies, 1‑Ton and Up trucks (including two‑axle and three‑axle dump trucks), Mowers, Graders, Tractors, Loaders, Excavators, Backhoes, Forklifts, and snow‑removal specialty equipment (plows, plows with wings, blowers). Work may involve performing tasks related to snow removal and highway maintenance, sometimes together with a crew.
The incumbent may be responsible for training by other crew members and may work for other supervisors or units as workload requires. A Class A driver’s license with tank endorsement is required.
- Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with the necessary details for application.
- Drug screening must be passed prior to employment.
- Valid unrestricted Class A commercial driver’s license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.
Applicants will be screened against the Minimum Qualifications listed in the Classification Specification and must provide verification of education and driving credentials as required. Eligibility is determined through the Caltrans Equipment Operator II exam; candidates without current eligibility must be on the state examination list.
