Job DescriptionDeKalb County Central United School District is committed to preparing students today for the world of tomorrow. We are seeking a long‑term substitute for a Second Grade Teacher at McKenney‑Harrison Elementary.
Responsibilities- Teach and instruct students in grade 2 across academic, social, behavioral, and other related skill areas.
- Plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive education program for elementary grade students.
- Support students, parents, and others in helping students adjust to a structured educational environment.
- Create and maintain an environment that fosters student achievement and the development of lifelong skills.
- Maximize opportunities for student success by building positive working relationships with students and staff.
- Actively participate in the establishment of policies and procedures that fit this unique teaching and learning environment.
- Remain flexible, innovative, and adaptive to change.
- Show confidence in working with new technology and various application packages.
- Be a role model for students regarding lifelong learning and professional behavior.
- Perform other related functions as required.
- College degree in elementary education, instructional technology, a subject commonly taught in the elementary grades, or a closely related field.
- Successfully completed student teaching at an accredited college or university.
- Obtained a license as an elementary teacher.
- Creative thinker and problem solver, excellent communicator with strong collaboration skills, and a team player.
- Proficient use of technology.
- Knowledge of principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of elementary grade pupils, child growth and development, and behavior characteristics of the elementary grade child.
- Understanding of educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, as well as educational trends and research findings pertaining to early childhood educational programming.
- Understanding of behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques, methods, and conflict resolution procedures.
- Understanding of the socio‑economic and cultural background differences of the general school population.
