The Senior Controls Engineer will lead the controls team, designing and maintaining control systems, supporting production automation, and providing qualification documentation for AI and Manufacturing 4.0 initiatives. This is an on‑site, full‑time salaried position located at 500 W 7th Street, Auburn, IN 46706.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Update, modify, and improve existing control systems including robotic programs, ladder logic, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interface, pneumatic distribution, and control.
- Lead the controls team and manage projects.
- Design and develop new machine controls—robotic, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and vision systems.
- Develop and support maintenance programs on equipment.
- Coordinate with engineering and maintenance on control modifications.
- Create and maintain hard copies and electronic databases: electrical, pneumatic schematics, panel layouts, PLC, operator display, interface, robot programs, machine power distribution, and vendor controls documentation.
- Schedule and complete backups of all electronic machine controls and robotic programs.
- Implement and maintain a data collection system from shop floor processing equipment.
- Maintain and expand existing plant floor machine controls to Ethernet gateways, links, and connections.
- Maintain all sub‑machine control data highways.
- Update the control portion of machine standards.
- Assist plant floor Ethernet machine drop routing and message traffic control.
- Complete correspondence, forms, and reports using computer and applicable software.
- Handle confidential information.
- Active member of a cross‑functional launch team.
- Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example.
- Promote and facilitate the Open Door process, effective and respectful communication.
- Participate in continual improvement activities.
- Adhere to customer requirements, quality system, and company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- University degree in a technical field with 3 years of direct work experience or a minimum of 8 years of direct manufacturing experience.
- Proficiency using lean manufacturing tools.
- 3 years of experience with Programmable Logic Controllers.
- Strong desire to promote organizational and team success by completing tasks on time and within budget.
- Ability to work well with others and build positive employee relations.
- High flexibility and ability to multitask.
- Positive personality capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions.
- Competent in reading and interpreting schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with discretion and tact.
- 40% office and 60% manufacturing floor.
- Can lift 20 lbs.
- 50% computer and 50% equipment.
Compensation varies based on qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Certain roles may qualify for additional incentives such as equity, commissions, or other variable performance‑related bonuses.
