Deputy Veteran’s Service Officer; VSO at DeKalb County Government, Indiana Auburn

DeKalb County Government (Auburn, Indiana) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of full‑time Deputy Veteran’s Service Officer (VSO).

• Provide assistance and information to eligible veterans and their dependents or survivors regarding all benefit entitlements from county, state and federal agencies, including pension, compensation, medical benefits, etc.
• Use excellent public relations skills, proper phone etiquette, and data entry skills.
• Schedule appointments, prepare payroll, order supplies and organize and attend outreach engagements.
• Act as a backup for the Department Head.

• Honorable discharge veteran with at least six (6) months of active duty service in the U.S. armed forces (DD214 required).
• Citizen of DeKalb County, Indiana, and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to complete mandatory VSO training and retain certification annually; attend required meetings and seminars as mandated by the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Maximum working 35 hours per week, with some evening hours required.
• Commitment to confidentiality.
• Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, uploading and downloading forms, and familiarity with email and voicemails.
• Starting wage $26 per hour; benefit package included.
