Summary
You will serve as a NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST EXAMINER in the NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTION AND NDT DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Responsibilities- Perform visual inspection, liquid penetrant inspection, magnetic particle inspection, eddy current inspection, or ultrasonic thickness during removal and overhaul of both nuclear and nonnuclear ship/boats.
- Conduct audits, submit reports and recommendations.
- Investigate and report on assigned problem areas and special projects.
- Perform inspections as a preventative maintenance measure on critical systems on nuclear submarines, welds and components.
- Work with engineers/metallurgists to investigate and resolve problems.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must be registered for Selective Service if male and born after 12‑31‑1959.
- This position is a bargaining unit position.
- Required to successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
- Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test is required.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment continuously during work shifts.
- Work may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
- May require working nights, weekends, or holidays; overtime or night differential pay may apply.
- Perform inspections of structural welds, pressure vessel welds, seal welds, shielding and special purpose lead, castings, forgings using NDT.
- Create clear sketches with accurate measurements.
- Visually inspect weld surface conditions to determine proper contouring, blending, and smoothness.
- Use basic mathematics, geometry, and algebra.
- Read and interpret drawings.
