Job OverviewThis position provides direct supervision of internal, external, and on‑call work crews and oversees resources and personnel engaged in the operation, maintenance, and construction of Eversource Energy gas distribution systems. The role is multi‑faceted, including integrated planning and scheduling, execution of fieldwork activities, adherence to company and regulatory rules and procedures, performance measurement, coaching, safety adherence, mentoring, and various administrative duties.
The supervisor prepares and executes maintenance and construction activities, coordinates schedules, and communicates with customers and community officials regarding all aspects of utility construction, operations, maintenance, and service delivery.
- Plans, organizes, and manages the Gas Maintenance and Construction field workload through accurate coordination and scheduling.
- Supervises in‑house crews and contractors engaged in operation, maintenance, and construction of the gas distribution system.
- Serves as the on‑scene supervisor to outages and responds to and classifies reported gas leaks.
- Ensures all engineering and gas control procedures are followed.
- Participates in the supervisory on‑call rotation, assigns and directs the work of unionized internal work crews.
- Ensures safety of personnel through direct preventive measures, effective weekly safety meetings, and compliance with related procedures, standards, rules, and laws.
- Monitors quality of workmanship and productivity of internal and external crews to meet Company standards.
- Provides complete, accurate, and timely work packages for crews, including permits, dig‑safe authorizations, drawings, and related instructions.
- Monitors current and future workload to ensure district plans and schedules maximize productivity, control costs, and meet or exceed service‑level agreements.
- Initiates investigations concerning disciplinary action for employees when required and resolves initial grievances under the labor contract.
- Participates in hiring panels involving recruitment of field employees and reviews and approves billing for accuracy and completeness.
- Technical knowledge of gas distribution system design, operations, maintenance, and construction principles and practices, safety standards, and business processes.
- Project and schedule management skills, including use of computerized work and materials management and scheduling tools.
- Working knowledge of labor contracts.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict‑resolution, attention‑to‑detail, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Word & Excel).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in gas distribution and/or field service design, installation, servicing customers, or utility operations.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator License required; must obtain and maintain required operator qualifications.
- Position is categorized as safety‑sensitive for drug testing; subject to pre‑assignment and random drug tests.
- Work conducted outside in varied conditions and terrain, as well as in a normal office environment.
- Work requires sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing, paperwork, telephone, computer use, and meetings.
- Travel by vehicle to various job sites and customer premises; may include shift work, weekends, and off‑hour on‑call responsibility on a rotational basis.
- May require long hours in response to outages and shift coverage requirements; must be available for emergency restoration assignments and travel between MA/CT/NH.
