To support growth of the company, Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician I to join our team. This is a dedicated on‑site position that focuses on DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers. Work is performed at the customer’s site. The Mobile Trailer Technician I can perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Mobile Trailer Technician II or higher and assists them with repairs while continuing to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnosis.
Duties- Always follows and complies with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Independently manages parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck and performs periodic reconciliation.
- Maintains and operates the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Applies knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform job duties and evaluates technical information related to the job.
- Works with and listens effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs and resolves their problems or satisfies expectations.
- Manages concurrent assigned tasks, making judgments regarding prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Acts with integrity, demonstrates honesty, keeps commitments, and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
- Responds to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Uses hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Documents work according to company standards, uploads pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders ("RO") using the company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately completes DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Works independently and manages own daily schedule.
- Maintains a high level of productivity and works within or close to most standard repair times.
- Obtains parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicates with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Performs all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Participates in and completes all company‑required safety training.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors, communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Performs minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems, including, but not limited to, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Adheres to company policies, processes, and procedures and remains up‑to‑date on safety protocols and procedures.
- High School Diploma/GED and up to 2 years’ experience in a related field.
- Possesses and supplies a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Obtains Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
