Position: Instruction and Classroom Support Tech 1 - ELL
Green River College's English Language Learning program for immigrants and refugees is part of the college's Adult Basic Education Program and is administered in cooperation with the Office of Adult Literacy of the State of Washington. The purpose of the ELL program is to build the basic English skills of students so they can function successfully in their current and future roles as family members, employees, community members, and students in a degreed program.

Our philosophy is one of respect and interest in all cultures, ethnic and racial groups. Our goal is to acculturate our students in the American educational system, and to foster self-directed life-long learners.

The Instructional and Classroom Support Technician 1 - ELL assists the instructors in order for them to best serve their students -- immigrants and refugees, ages 17 and older, living in the greater Kent/Auburn area. Positions may be available in Literacy, multi-level, or computer lab classes. Working schedule will be up to 16 hours a week. Assignments may be in the morning (9-12) or in the evening (6-9).

Assignments may be on Auburn or Kent Campus, or at a satellite location. Classes meet Monday-Thursday.

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees.  Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw.  Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students.

Instructional Responsibilities

* Assist students with assigned work in all subjects, asking an instructor for assistance if needed

* Become familiar with ELL curriculum, and become competent in the subject matter included therein

* Become familiar with computers and navigating CANVAS

* Provide individual or group tutoring when asked by the instructor

Non-Instructional Responsibilities

* Assist with student intake procedures

* Return books and materials to proper places

* Help instructors with other duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications:

* Sensitivity to working with a diverse student population

* Interest and ability to work with ELL competencies in all subject areas

* Desire to help others

* Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in a classroom setting

* Experience in an ELL classroom

* Experience with instructional technology (computers and phones)

* Experience supporting student learning

The desired candidate will also have the ability to:
