Position Type:
Para Educator (School Aide)/Assistant working 1:1 with Scholar.

Location:

Lake Dolloff Elementary.
Hours per Day: 6.5 hours; $26.55 - $29.29 DOE.
Days of the Week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Shift Times: 8:40am-3:55pm Monday - Thursday; 8:40am-2:55pm Friday (Early Release).
Days per Year: 180.

The para educator works 1:1 with a special needs student under the direction of a certified teacher, specialist, or principal. Students may be medically fragile or have behavior challenges ranging from mild to severe. The role supports the teacher and caregivers with instructional and physical tasks to help the student achieve the highest level of independent functioning possible.

• Assist in the care of medically fragile or behaviorally challenged students as directed and as stated in their IEP.
• Assist in the daily instruction of the assigned student and other students.
• Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of IEP goals and objectives.
• Assist in the planning of daily/weekly individual and group lessons based on IEP goals and objectives.
• Collect, analyze, and maintain data to modify IEP and determine program effectiveness.
• Provide essential information to all staff to meet IEP goals and objectives.
• Assist in developing and implementing behavior plans.
• Assist with teaching daily living skills including personal hygiene, communication, and classroom routines.
• Change diapers and/or toilet train as needed.
• Assist student with transitions (music, P.E., library, motor activities, lunch, recess).
• Assist in transferring students in a wheelchair or with special equipment using a lift or a 1–2 person lift.
• Practice safety and security within individual work routines.

• Perform instructional clerical tasks.
• Work collaboratively with district staff and promote teamwork with co-workers.
• Assist substitute teachers with pertinent classroom information.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• And one of the following:
  • AA degree.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and 48 college‑level semester credits.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and 72 college‑level quarter credits.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and pass the state‑approved para educator assessment test.

• Proficient in basic spelling, math, and grammar.
• Experienced and/or trained in reading instruction, remediation, and assessment.

• Pass a criminal background check.
• Washington State driver’s license.
• Possess and maintain Type II driver’s license.
• Complete the district’s para educator core competency requirements.
• Possess and maintain PBIS certification.
• Complete, and maintain, advanced right response training on an annual basis.
• Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis.
