Physical Education Teacher, Elementary School
Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School, an independent co-educational primary school located in Washington, DC, seeks a Physical Education Teacher starting January 2026. We are looking for an educator who mentors and inspires young minds and embraces the importance of an active lifestyle. Annual Salary: $65,000 – $90,000 depending on education and experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION
- Create a warm and inclusive learning environment that supports the physical, social, and emotional growth of young children.
- Design and facilitate developmentally appropriate, engaging activities that foster physical literacy, teamwork, and joy in movement for diverse learners.
- Demonstrate the ability to teach independently or in a co-teaching model, as needed.
- Collaborate closely with a co-teacher and colleagues to ensure consistency and connection across the program.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and tools to support active, equitable learning experiences.
- Observe and support student growth, communicate with families, and adapt lessons to meet individual needs.
- Model and reinforce inclusive play, sportsmanship, and empathy through movement and group activities.
- Support school routines (e.g., arrival, dismissal, lunch) as part of community life.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to an inclusive school culture.
- Uphold Responsive Classroom practices and Beauvoir’s Life Rules in daily routines.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Physical Education, Adaptive PE, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, or a related field; familiarity with SHAPE or similar physical education curriculum preferred.
- At least three years of experience.
- Experience teaching, coaching, or supporting young children in school, recreation, or community settings.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and affirming environments for all students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Proficiency with common computer applications, including word processing and shared calendars. - Professionalism:
Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and composure under pressure. - Reliability:
Consistent and punctual attendance; able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently. - Compliance:
Adherence to all policies and procedures outlined in the Beauvoir Faculty & Staff Handbook. - Flexibility:
