Workforce Education Coordinator

The successful Workforce Education (WFE) Coordinator demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, belonging, and student success; builds effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences; and balances student advocacy with regulatory and program compliance in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.

The Workforce Education Coordinator reports to the Director of Workforce Education and serves as a key contributor to the college's mission of expanding educational access, economic mobility, and workforce opportunities for students and communities.

The Workforce Education Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting student access, retention, completion, and career advancement by connecting eligible students with financial assistance through Workforce Education programs, including Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET), Worker Retraining, Work First, and Opportunity Grant.

This position provides individualized guidance to prospective and enrolled students regarding program eligibility, funding requirements, academic planning, career pathways, and available college and community resources.

The Coordinator assists students in navigating complex systems, identifying and addressing barriers, maintaining compliance with Workforce Education program requirements and funding regulations, and progressing toward their educational and career goals.

The position requires the ability to apply program requirements consistently while recognizing individual circumstances, identifying allowable options and resources, and minimizing unnecessary barriers to student access and success.

The Workforce Education Coordinator maintains accurate student records and collects, analyzes, and reports program data while ensuring compliance with applicable state, federal, institutional, and grant requirements.

The position also contributes to program effectiveness through outreach, recruitment, student engagement, relationship-building, and continuous improvement.

The Coordinator collaborates extensively with state agencies, workforce development partners, community-based organizations, employers, and educational stakeholders, including the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), Employment Security Department, Career Path Services, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs, and other public and private partners.

The position requires strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills and a demonstrated ability to serve students from diverse cultural, educational, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The Workforce Education Coordinator partners with Workforce Education staff, Transitional Studies, Professional-Technical faculty, Financial Aid, Career and Advising, the Master Achiever Center, Student Affairs, and other campus departments to promote student success.

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students.

Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.
