In addition to the base salary above**

Industrial Hygienists and Safety & Health Professionals will be compensated basic salary plus 10% for each hour they are required to use personal protective equipment (excluding hard hats, boots, hearing and eye protection) to enter a hazardous worksite to consult, inspect or investigate where serious hazards are present.

IF BILINGUAL

If hired as bilingual (not required), after passing an assessment of your ability to write and speak fluently. We do not use translating software. Employees with bilingual responsibilities receive a 5% increase in pay.

The salary listed for this position does not include the 5% premium pay for positions based in King County.

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is looking for a Consultation Operations Safety Specialist (OSHPRO3) to join our Consultation, Education and Outreach team.

This is a statewide role where your expertise will help employers build stronger safety and health programs and recognize workplaces that are making safety a priority. You’ll work with a wide range of customers and partners, provide technical assistance and training, conduct onsite evaluations, and help lead several of DOSH’s voluntary safety programs.

For this position, teleworking is permitted on occasion dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station can be at any of our L&I locations Statewide.

What You’ll Do

Serving as a technical safety resource for employers, business and labor organizations, and DOSH staff, you’ll:

  • Provide safety expertise, consultation, training, and presentations on workplace safety and health topics.
  • Lead and coordinate statewide programs including the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), L&I Safety Excellence Program, Challenge Program, Minor Variance Program, and Self-Insurance Evaluations.
  • Lead onsite evaluations and work with DOSH professionals to assess workplace safety and health programs.
  • Review applications, conduct quality assurance audits, and help employers address identified hazards.
  • Build relationships with employers, industry groups, and other safety professionals.
  • Help develop and improve safety and health programs, processes, and program materials.
  • Represent DOSH at conferences, training events, and other outreach activities.

Driving is an essential function of this position. The incumbent is required to travel between worksites to perform assigned duties and must operate a state-issued vehicle, motor pool vehicle, or personally owned vehicle (POV), as appropriate. Use of a POV will be reimbursed at the current state mileage reimbursement rate.

Must be able to safely navigate a variety of work environments, including large manufacturing facilities with metal stairways, catwalks, ladders, and uneven terrain. Must also be able to work outdoors for…
