Role DescriptionThe Patient Safety Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Falls Church, VA. This role oversees patient safety programs, monitors safety performance, and leads initiatives to reduce risk and prevent adverse events. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing incident reports, conducting serious events analyses, coordinating safety rounds, and collaborating with clinical and administrative teams to design and implement improvement plans. The Patient Safety Manager, under the guidance of the guidance of the Director of Quality and Risk Management, develops and updates policies, supports regulatory and accreditation compliance, and provides safety education and training to staff.
This position also prepares reports and presentations for leadership, tracks key safety metrics, and promotes a culture of transparency, learning, and accountability across the hospital.
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety principles, clinical risk management, and quality improvement methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, PDSA cycles).
- Experience working in an acute care, behavioral health, or hospital setting with direct involvement in safety, quality, or performance improvement activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills to evaluate trends, identify system issues, and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and lead safety-focused meetings and training.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and as part of cross-functional teams in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and reporting requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, DBHDS)
- Proficiency with standard office and data tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, incident reporting systems, dashboards) and comfort presenting findings to leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, public health, or a related field; an advanced degree or professional certification in patient safety or quality (e.g., CPHQ, CPPS) is preferred.
