It will be important for this person to have strong leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to drive efficiency across multiple functions by using data to support decision-making and long-term planning efforts.

Additional key components of this role are a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, high operational standards, and the ability to evaluate and improve workflows with a focus on cost control and service delivery.

  • Strong problem-solving ability with a focus on improving workflows and operational efficiency
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate across multiple divisions
  • Ability to ensure compliance with safety regulations (WISHA/OSHA) and enforce safe work practices
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, evaluate, and hold staff accountable
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a 24/7 operational environment

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and oversee fleet operations – Ensure the City's vehicles and equipment are maintained, repaired, and operational 24/7, including emergency/off-duty response readiness.
  • Manage central stores and inventory systems – Oversee parts, materials, fuel systems, and warehouse operations to ensure accurate inventory, cost control, and support for all divisions.
  • Direct purchasing and asset management – Procure vehicles, equipment, and supplies in compliance with regulations while managing lifecycle, costs, and replacement planning.
  • Supervise staff and operations – Assign, schedule, train, and evaluate employees while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality work across fleet and general services.
  • Drive operational efficiency and planning – Analyze workflows, implement improvements, and develop short- and long-term plans, budgets, and level-of-service standards.
  • Coordinate department-wide support and systems – Work with other divisions to ensure service continuity, manage asset management software (Cartegraph), and support administrative functions and customer service.

What we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, AND
