Powered Equipment Operator – Cut B
As a Powered Equipment Operator - Cut B, you will safely operate powered material‑handling and cut equipment to support production and fabrication activities. You will prepare and set up work packages, position and secure materials with lifts, cranes, and vacuum systems, and load/operate shears, saws, and CNC programmes to produce parts per work orders and drawings. The operator performs first‑part checks, monitors machine performance, performs basic finishing and inspection using precision measuring tools, handles and protects materials to prevent damage, and follows all safety, hazardous‑materials, and documentation procedures while maintaining required certifications.
This position is 100% onsite and requires a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62. Candidates must be resident in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
Position Responsibilities- Review CMES/work orders, drawings, tie‑ins, operator/setup documents, and tooling instructions to confirm prior and following operations and prepare the work package.
- Ensure the correct quantity/type of parts, material, tools, cutters, fixtures, and shipping containers are present; check tools, saw blades, and fixtures for damage or defects.
- Move, lift, and position heavy material, tools, and parts using electric stackers, overhead cranes, vacuum lifts, or ask for assistance as needed.
- Identify required setups and select appropriate cutters, drills, bushings/finger guides, and cutting tool geometry; replace or repair worn, chipped, or defective tools.
- Set up shapers, saws, shears, and related machines: install cutters/blades, bushings, guides, clamps, locator pins, seals, and NCMIT per documents; ensure guards and safety features are attached and oil/coolant levels are correct.
- Retrieve, download, and run CNC/N.C. programmes from servers/databases to controller; set machine coordinates, cutter offsets, tool heights, gauges, stops, and controller inputs per CNC or setup documents.
- Load and secure parts on fixtures or work‑holding devices (vacuum chucks, HRF/SHF), run first part and obtain first‑part checks, then run remaining parts while periodically checking configuration and progress.
- Calculate and sequence cuts, nesting, and material usage to minimise waste; record material/debit usage and return remnants to storage; order additional material via SMARTS/ERP or remnant rack as required.
- Perform handwork and finishing operations: routing, deburring, filing, grinding splices, dressing guide plates, removing tabs, chamfering, and cleaning to meet edge finish and dimensional requirements.
- Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, scales, gauges) to check dimensions, key features, and part conformance after each operation and perform in‑process checks for inspectors as required.
- Operate hand, pneumatic, and floor‑mounted tools (routers, band saws, sanders) and perform bench work to remove excess material and complete machining operations.
- Fabricate or identify and build holding fixtures, shop aids, blocks, and temporary fittings to support setups and shearing operations.
- Monitor machine operation for unusual vibration, noises, or malfunctions; regulate machine speeds, feeds, air/coolant/lubricant flow; tighten/adjust equipment or contact facilities for repair as needed.
- Handle, protect, interleaf, tag, wrap, and transport finished and in‑process parts using appropriate packaging and material‑handling equipment; attach part identification tags and leave tie‑ins for following shifts.
- Follow safety procedures: use PPE, handle and dispose of hazardous materials (coolants, solvents, lubricants, rags) per SDS, maintain personal/tool certifications, and contact leads/supervisors when assistance or clarification is required.
- Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
- Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
- Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
