The Program Assistant observes, records, and responds to the comings and goings of guests/residents/participants and staff, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. They serve on the program services team, supporting trauma‑informed assistance for the community.
About the ProgramLocated in Auburn, WA, Don’s Place is a hybrid housing program combining aspects of enhanced shelter and permanent supportive housing. It provides non‑time limited emergency housing with 24/7 supportive services for adults and couples, including daily meals, 24/7 staffing support, laundry, and referrals to medical and mental health services.

Meal PeriodPaid (30 minutes)
Salary Range$26.99 per hour (Level 1), with a Step 2 increase of 2.5% after 12 consecutive months of employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide trauma‑informed monitoring of activity in and around the building to ensure safety, security, and comfort.
- Mediate conflicts and provide de‑escalation, crisis intervention, and refer to appropriate services.
- Assist in program activities including meal services, laundry assistance, group activities, etc.
- Engage guests/residents/participants to assess needs and provide information and referrals.
- Respond to issues as directed by program management.
- Report guest/resident/participant and building needs to management and ensure supplies/equipment are stocked.
- Monitor security cameras, conduct periodic security rounds, check lights, doors, windows, and investigate complaints.
- Log actions, incidents, rule enforcement, and report unusual or sensitive matters to the Program Coordinator or Manager.
- Control after‑hours door access and enforce rules and restrictions.
- Follow building/staff safety and emergency procedures.
- Perform light janitorial duties as assigned.
- Recognize diversity and maintain favorable working relationships.
- Project a favorable image of the organization and promote its aims.
- Perform duties promptly and effectively according to agency policies.
- Maintain confidentiality, tactfulness, and respect for diverse participants.
- Demonstrate de‑escalation, crisis intervention, and stabilization best practices.
- Know local resources for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

- At least 1 year experience in a social/human service setting (preferred).
- Awareness or training around belonging, compassion, and meeting people where they are (preferred).
- Familiarity with housing instability, mental health, substance use, sexual assault, and/or domestic violence (preferred).
- Experience in an environment with language barriers (preferred).
- Current WA State Food Handlers Permit (preferred; sponsorship within 1 month of hire if not current).
- A degree in human/social services or related field complements required experience.
- Regular talking and listening.
- Standing, walking, using hands to handle items; occasionally push, pull, lift or carry up to 20 pounds.
